Family Support Worker – Family Support Service
We currently have exciting opportunities within our team for Family Support Workers to join our Family Support Service. This is an exciting time to join Solihull Metropolitan council, with significant investments into our Early Help Services within Childrens Services. We are committed to achieving positive outcomes for children, young people and their families through early intervention and support.
About the Roles
Family Support Workers undertake a variety of functions in the service and we have opportunity in both direct work and our helpline.
Family Support Worker - Helpline
Our helpline Family Support Workers provide support to families and professionals via our Family Helpline, which operates Monday to Friday, 9:00 am to 4:30 pm. The work is fast-paced and works closely with our Multi-Agency Safeguarding Hub to ensure families receive the right support at the right time. This role involves taking calls from families and professionals, screening multi-agency referral forms (MARFs), and reviewing community-led early help assessments.
Successful candidates must be flexible to business needs, as responsibilities may change.
Family Support Worker - Direct Work
We also have opportunity for Family Support Workers to work directly with families. Family Support Workers in the direct work team hold their own caseloads, deliver evidence-based interventions, and provide targeted support in family homes and community venues. The role involves working as part of a multi-agency approach to coordinate support for families, including leading Team Around the Family meetings. Workers participate in a duty rota, which may require visits at short notice.
To be successful in this role, you will need to demonstrate:
· Level 3 qualification, e.g. Level 3 Diploma for Children and Young People's Workforce
· Experience of working on a 1-1 basis with children, young people or their families in a social care, educational or voluntary setting
· Strong interpersonal and communication skills to establish collaborative relationships with children and their families, which may be emotionally demanding at times
· Good organisational skills
· Effective team working skills
· Experience of writing reports and knowledge of promoting safeguarding issues
· Experience of undertaking assessments, an understanding of the threshold criteria, skills in delivering direct work and interventions that are evidence based are crucial for this role.
